Let’s face it, we are all so dang busy! Between our families, the nitty-gritty of running our businesses, and trying to fit in all that self-care everyone is preaching these days, spending time nurturing our business relationships can easily fall to the wayside. But, honestly guys, it doesn’t take that long. The amount of time you invest in developing a successful host coaching system could be the difference between making or breaking your business. Implementing this simple practice will transform your business and more importantly your relationships.

But let’s take one step back here. If you’re new to the direct sales world, you may be asking “What the heck is host coaching?”.

Host coaching, put simply, is making sure that your host(ess) has the absolute BEST party experience possible. You want her to feel confident and valued while equipping her with all the tools she needs to maximize the outcome of her party and earn some awesome rewards.

One key thing you need to remember – it’s about her. Host coaching is not about you.

Will your business reap some rewards like greater income and new team members? Absolutely. Should that be your only focus? Nope. When you create genuine relationships and care about your hostesses, success will naturally happen.

In a virtual world, it can be easy to become disconnected. Talking through the screen, or sometimes hiding behind it, can be detrimental to long-term relationship building. So, when you’re focusing your direct sales business on virtual parties, it’s extra important to be mindful of your interactions with your hostesses.

If you’re a direct seller, you’ve probably been a hostess before. Raise your hand if you’ve experienced a hostess who books a party and then disappears. I think a lot of us have our hands up right now. Unfortunately, this practice isn’t uncommon. It’s even more common now that the popularity of virtual parties is growing.

How did you feel after being left high and dry by your hostess? Not good. Would you ever book a party with her again? Probably not. Would you recommend your friends host a party with her? Hard pass.

Let’s flip that around. How do you think your hosts feel when you do something similar to them? What happens when you don’t communicate often or effectively with your hosts? The same thing that happens when a host ghosts you. They feel frustrated and will likely not recommend you to their friends. Make sense?

Now that you know you should be host coaching, let’s dig into some of the finer points.

The definition of a coach is “give (someone) extra or private teaching”.

The definition of a cheerleader is “an enthusiastic and vocal supporter of someone or something”.

While we obviously want to be our host’s number one cheerleader, we more so want to be their coach – that is where she will see success. Coaches are the experts, they’re the ones with all the tools, the expertise, the tips and tricks, the experience. They know how to win the game and motivate the players. We as direct sellers are the coaches, our hostesses are our team.

If you become an effective coach, sharing all the tools and tips at your disposal, it will all come together.

You want to formulate a communication plan that has your hostess feeling loved on and taken care of throughout the entire party process, from the moment she books to the moment her rewards are delivered and every step in between.

Let’s chat about some tips that will help you get started.

After years and years of perfecting my personal host coaching process, here are a few things that you must do for effective host coaching:

Successful host coaching all comes down to your plan. To save yourself time and effort, take a day to sit down and knock out your host coaching strategy. A simple plan you can follow for each party that can be easily customized for each hostess.

Determine what you’re going to send when they set the date for their party and what you’ll include in your host packet (I highly recommend sending a host packet). Map out your communication touchpoints from booking to party set up to post-party. Run through every little detail of a party and think about how you can make sure your hostess is prepared, confident, and excited to party with her friends! What do you want her to do at each stage? What tools does she need to do that?

Consistency is key to success my friends, and a host coaching plan is the perfect place to start.

As in every other part of our lives, communication is key. It’s better to over-communicate than have your hostess feeling left in the dark about what she should be doing next. Guide her through the party process literally from start to finish. Think about what she needs to know every step of the way – you should even let her know when she can anticipate hearing from you next so she isn’t left wondering! The more you share, the more successful the party will be and the more fun your hostess will have.

Simplicity is key when it comes to effective host coaching. Hosting a party should be fun, not stressful, right? Provide your hostess with things like tips on who and how many friends to invite, scripts for invitations, social posts for virtual parties, a party timeline, shopping lists for in-home parties, and anything else she might need. If she is prepared and confident, she’ll be successful, and that means your party will be successful for you, too!

Host coaching is powerful y’all. If you treat your hostesses with care and build those relationships your business will grow. Want to know the best part? It’s so stinkin’ fun! What’s better than gaining new friends through funny GIFs and catch up calls with your hostesses? I have built so many lifelong relationships and friendships with my hostesses through this practice, and it helped me build my business along the way.

If you’re wondering why you’re not growing, why your sales are down, or why you aren’t booking new parties – take a look at your host coaching strategy. It could be the problem and the good news is that it’s pretty easy to fix.

I honestly believe that if you’re not host coaching effectively during every party you book, you’re handicapping your business. You’re getting in the way of your own amazing growth!
